In a rare attempt to get more organised, here’s everything I’ve translated, organised by translation status [ongoing; completed; oneshots; hiatus].

The Twelve Spirits: Ugly Spirit

Translation of: 十二魂:丑魅•画颜 (残妆)
Author: Ye Xiao (叶笑 )
Length: 8 chapters [short story, complete]
Genre: Xuanhuan, Historical, Romance, Angst, Tragedy

Summary: ‘I wish to become the happiest woman on this planet; to meet him at my happiest, then have him fall for me and paint my face for a lifetime.’ – Ning Xishi

Notes: I translated this a year ago but never got round to editing & posting it. Will upload once I’m done editing each part. Shouldn’t take too long as it’s a short story.

Ballad of Ten Thousand Gu

Translation of: 万蛊谣
Author: Ye Xiao (叶笑 )
Length: 5 chapters [complete]
Genre: Xuanhuan, Historical, Master-Disciple, OE

Summary: Before she jumped into the pond filled with ten thousand gu, Ah Lai asked her, ‘Did you ever regret meeting him?’

Su Bai watched her quietly, her eyes clear. After a long moment, she lifted her lips and smiled. ‘It was the greatest blessing of my life to have met him.’ And she leapt off the steps.

She thought, no matter how difficult her love was, no matter how she hated and then despaired, in this life, she was immensely fortunate, because she had once loved a person so deeply. Even if, he had never loved her.

One Night, One Day, One Year, One Lifetime

Translation of: 一夜一日一年一世
Author: Fu Sulu (扶苏绿)
Length: 13 chapters [complete]
Genre: Modern-Day, Forced Marriage, Tragedy

Summary: Gao Fei, do you believe that I lived through this night, this day, this year and this lifetime, only to hold your hands and accompany you in this journey of life?

Lament at Changmen Palace

Translation of: 长门怨
Author: Qiao Xi (乔夕)
Length: Oneshot
Genre: Romance, Historical, Tragedy

Summary: A long time later, I began to understand the value of a golden palace. If, from the beginning, all I wanted was only the precious throne belonging to an Empress, perhaps I would not have lost you as quickly as I had.

Notes: This novel narrates the true story between Emperor Han Wudi and his first wife, the deposed Empress Chen Jiao. Their story has been encapsulated into a chinese idiom “金屋藏娇” (jīn wū cáng jiāo), which means ‘putting (Chen) Jiao into a golden house’.

There Was Once a Person, Who Loved Me With His Life – Sun Jiayu’s story

Translation of: 曾有一个人,爱我如生命(孙嘉遇番外)
Author: Shu Yi (舒仪)
Length: Oneshot (extra story of a novel)
Genre: Romance, Modern-Day, Mafia, Tragedy

Notes: This is Sun Jiayu’s extra story from the novel, There Was Once a Person, Who Loved Me with His Life.

Love in Another Life: My Gentle Tyrant | CharactersReviewResources

Translation of: 再生缘:我的温柔暴君
Author: Mo Wu Bi Ge (墨舞碧歌)
Length: 500+ chapters [hiatus]
Genre: Romance, Angst, Historical, Xuanhuan, Three Lives, HE

Summary: He is Xi Liang’s legendary emperor: a decisive and ruthless king; a man of supreme wisdom; a cunning strategist.

According to legend, he once conferred the love meant for the three thousand concubines in his harem onto one woman, while the world watched in envy.

According to legend, he once executed a hundred people for her, turning the palace into a purgatory overnight.

According to legend, he ultimately sentenced that same woman to death by execution…

A conspiracy that swept through the country resulted in her tragic end. This lifetime seems to be a repeat of her past life. Can she escape the clutches of fate to attain true love in this life? In both lives, she was the Emperor’s wife, but is that ruthless man really her true love mandated by Heaven?

Did she really die, just like that?

In the end, beyond the veil of lies and mysteries, who exactly was she? Was she a woman that he truly loved, or was she merely a chess piece to be used in his political machinations?

The stories passed onto later generations remain fraught with conflicting opinions.

  1. I’m also a fan of tragedy novels such as you and it fills me with warmth that some writers take the time to translate despite the pain of rereading hauntingly beautiful endings of particular tragedies. That’s why your take on OneLifetime series is such a place for me to return to whenever I want to cry or let loose a few tears. Because what better way to succumb in sadness for a moment by reading something that cuts your heart? Please take this as me being grateful that you pour your precious free time on writing such beautiful prose. Your words made me a cry many times now even though I’m just rereading the same material, considering I don’t cry easily. I hope you’re doing well amid this crisis wherever you are 🙂 Please do not be pressured to update, such as others you still have life beyond this momentary reprieve from reality. Still please be safe and I’m hoping you are well and fine :))

    1. I’m happy you enjoyed One Lifetime too! 🙂 It’s also one of my favourite stories. Even though it’s a short novel, somehow it left a very deep and lasting impression with me even after years. Stay safe too!

  2. A bit sad that you stopped halfway, but- thanks for translating ~~a bit of~~ this! Your translation is beautiful! (Not sure if everyone’s like me and cries not even 20 chapters in-)

*goes back to the corner, clutches my head after reading the whole novel using google translate*

  3. Do you know where we could read 传奇 – Chuan Qi? Looks very interesting and would love to reach more, especially with regards to how Li Zhaoting realizes he lost the person he wanted the most

  4. Hey Catharcity, I really love your translation. I have read almost all of angst novels in your translation multiple times(and still cried a buckets). I wanted to find some angst novel like shattered glass and one day, one night but no stories touched my heart like these two. So can you reccomend some angst novel. I don’t understand Chinese so its hard for me to just find some novel whose i don’t know name of.
Even of its not translated, I can read mtl or raws.

Sorry for all the trouble amd thank you lol.

    1. You can go to my cnovel recommendations page. Those are the angst novels I’ve enjoyed after reading cnovels for a couple of years. I wish I had more to recommend but unfortunately it’s rly difficult to find good novels in this genre :/
